Epping Town is situated on the Edge of 6,000
acres of Epping Forest in the south west of Essex, about 17 miles to the
North East of London and has a population of approximately 12,000.
Epping is a historic market town in the 17th Century Epping grew into
a coaching town and was a popular haunt for Highwaymen, including
Dick Turpin.
A few buildings from those
times still exist in the High Street, the oldest being the Black Lion Public
House. There are a number of listed buildings in the High Street which has
also been designated as a conservation area.
Today the town has three tower
landmarks; to the south is the Gothic water tower built in 1872. In the
centre the Parish Church of St John's built in 1889 and completed in 1909
with the addition of the tower.
To the north
are the Civic Offices of
Epping Forest District Council.
The town has a Monday market and a range of shops and restaurants including
National retailers such as NEXT and BOOTS.
Epping features a Central line underground station with convenient links
to the City and West End.
The M25 and M11 motorways are both easily accessible at Waltham Abbey and
Hastingwood and Stansted Airport is within a 20-minute drive.
